The new Turkish citizenship regulations

The Turkish citizenship regulations have been updated and are set to come into effect on January 1st, 2023. The main changes in the new regulations include the requirement that a single title deed must be used for a single citizenship application, eliminating the option to apply for multiple citizenships through share purchases. This means that a foreigner can only apply for Turkish citizenship with a single title deed for a property.

Moreover, timeshare purchases are no longer valid for citizenship applications. The new regulations do not limit the type of property that can be purchased for the purpose of acquiring Turkish citizenship. Whether it is a residence, workplace, land, agricultural land, or garden, there is no limitation regarding the purchase of property and citizenship applications.

In addition, a single sales contract is now required for reaching the required property value for the citizenship program. There is no limit on the number of properties that can be purchased, as long as they are included in a single contract. However, the regulations state that the minimum value considered appropriate in the law should be in a single contract. Therefore, with the new regulations, it is possible to reach the property value determined by the law by purchasing more than one property in a single contract, but it is not accepted to reach it with more than one contract.

It is important to note that the old regulations will still apply to applications made before January 1st, 2023. Applications made until this date will be finalized within the framework of the Circular no. 2019/5 and its annex, the Guideline dated 13/06/2022, which will be in effect until this date.
